Windows Media Center is the one, convenient place you can go for entertainment on your PC. It’s a whole system within Windows 7 that makes it easy to use your PC for fun.
In addition to watching and recording TV and movies, you can browse photos, listen to music, play DVDs, check sports scores, play games and much more.
Watch and record high-definition TV and movies
With broadcast or cable TV and a TV tuner, you can watch, pause, and record live TV, even HDTV. That means if you’re in the middle of the show and need to answer a phone call, you can just pause the show and start it again when you’re off the phone.
Windows Media Center supports many global TV standards and tuners, including digital and HD. It also now plays more popular audio and video formats—including 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, DivX, MOV, and Xvid.
You can also use Windows Media Center to record TV and movies right to your PC. There's no monthly service fee like with typical digital video recorders. Scheduling a recording couldn’t be easier. Just browse the Electronic Program Guide or search for upcoming programming on TV, click on the show you want, and set up the recording.
To set up your PC to watch and record TV, you’ll plug your TV tuner into your TV source, open Media Center from the Start menu, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
Internet TV
Internet TV is a new feature in Windows Media Center that delivers your favorite entertainment over a broadband Internet connection, for free. It features a wide variety of great shows such as full-length episodes from top broadcasters, including primetime dramas, news and current event programming, as well as video podcasts from top entertainment providers.
And if you have a Netflix membership, you can watch an even wider range of movies and TV shows made available through Netflix. Get started with Internet TV.
Entertainment where you want
Using HomeGroup, you can share the TV, movies, and other media and files on one PC with any other PC with Windows 7 in your house. So, if you’ve recorded a TV show on the PC in your living room, you can watch it on your laptop in the den. That’s not the only way to share your entertainment. If you have an Xbox 360®, you can also send the recorded TV, videos, and photos on your PC to your television.
